Being the best!

Hey fam! Everyone who is active in something that they are passionate about wants to be the best that they can possibly be. You should never sacrifice quality of performance, presentation, or image. One thing that my advisor always have told me (from a music business point of view) is "Handle Your Business"! In my opinion, one of the best ways to stay on top of your game is to continue being a student of what you love doing. Though Kobe Bryant is arguably one of the greatest basketball players, he yet remains a fan of the game. If you are a recording artist you must never stop becoming a fan of the music! No matter how many albums I record, I will always be a gospel music fan. It is difficult to grow when you have no one to pattern yourself after but yourself! The day you stop learning is the day you stop growing. The day you stop growing is the day you stop succeeding. The day you stop succeeding is the day you value begins to decline. Be humble and always be willing to consider someone else's opinion, EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR OWN!

The Results of out Literacy Benefit Concert

Hello Everyone. Many of you know that the Literacy Benefit Concert/Recording that we had Friday April 15 was to benefit an after school reading program that is hosted by the "Baldwin Center" in Pontiac, MI. I want to share with you an email that I recieved from The Baldwin Center:

Darick:

Hope you had a GREAT Easter! Thank you again for an awesome event. That evening was mind blowing. I was moved, and we are thankful for your gifts and your donations as well.

We ended up with 814 items (books, tapes, etc.) from the event, that blessed our young people as Easter gifts and are being used in the youth center library. This is an incredible blessings.

Thank you again,

Jason Morgan
Director of Community Engagements
The Baldwin Center

There is no way we could have done this without the support of you all who showed up and made donations. I want to personally thank each and everyone of you! You never know who is going to read the book that you donated and become a medical doctor, or Lawyer, or the next Mayor of your city. Let's keep finding creative ways to sow into our future. Blessings on all of you!

Can You Say "It Is Finished"

Every last one of us have started a project, goal, or idea that we thought was, at one point, worth putting time into. Some of us have started college while others started a weight loss program. Some of us started reading one scripture a day while others started cleaning up they're credit. But, unfortunately, most of us who have started something have abruptly stopped! It is to you're advantage to understand that It takes very little to be "A Starter"! Most of us can talk up more game in one day than we can live in a life time. I'm convinced that God is not looking for "Starters", but He's looking for "Finishers"! He's looking for people who can follow through their confession! Jesus was a man who was certain of his purpose and remained focused on his purpose until it was accomplished. Yes, even through pain, mockery, abuse, ridicule, embarrassment, humiliation, abandonment, and many sorrows. He still kept his focus on what he was put here to do.

Challenge: Can you remain focused to finish was God has started in you?

Blessed or cursed by my friends.........

Does it really matter who you hang with? Does it really matter who your best friends are? Does it really matter what they do as long as I don't do it? The psalmist said it best; Psalms 1:1-3 says" Blessed is the one who does not walk in steps with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company with mockers, but who's delight is in the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water which yealds it's fruit in season and whoes leaf does not whither. Whatever they do prospers" (NIV). This scripture suggests that you can be blessed or cursed depending on the company that you keep! Have you ever wondered why your still in the same hole that you've always been in and you don't know why? You've been praying about things that just aren't happening for you; even thought you try to live a life that is pleasing to God. The next thing you should do is start evaluating the people who are closest to you; the people whom are closely associated with you. The people who represent you when you are abscent. The scripture implies that when you (and the company that you keep) meditate on God's law (word) you will be like a tree that is planted by streams of water (a solid foundation with strong and healthy roots) whoes leaf does not whither (in good condition) AND WHATEVER YOU DO WILL PROSPER!!!!!

God, I Can't Do It

Would God ask us to do something that we (in ourselves) can't do? Yes. Now, why would he do something like that. Luke 18:27 says "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God". This let's me know that their are somethings that God want to do but if you try to do them without him they will become a complete failure. In some situations, the only thing God is waiting on you to admit is that "I can't do this thing by myself, God"! And when your strength runs out, his kicks in. He specializes in things that are impossible. One thing you've got to understand, friend, is that God's plans (for your life) must include Him!
Phillippians 4:13 the Apostle Paul make it very clear by saying "I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST which strengthens me. The key phrase is "through christ". If it's not done through Christ you can't do it! Because it's in Christ that you get your strength.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for my purpose. Help me to remain in you so I can do all things that you have assigned me to do. I recieve my victory in advance, in Jesus' name amen!

It Happened On Purpose

Hey fam! Have you ever heard the phrase "Bad things happen to good people"? Well that's true! Many people have created an idea of Purpose with one problem; We forgot to include suffering! Matt. 16:21-23 Before Jesus was to be crucified He tells the deciples that he must suffer some things and be killed. Peter immidiately said "Lord don't let it happen"! Jesus then rebukes him!
You might ask "Why did Jesus rebuke Peter for just caring about Him"? The answer is Peter did not accept the fact that in order for Jesus to fulfill His purpose he had to die!!! Now Jesus lives forever with TOTAL victory!
One thing that you must understand is that God sometimes uses bad situations to bring out the best in you! GOD CAN GET GLORY OUT OF ANY SITUATION (hes' that bad)! You have purpose attached to your life and their are times when life's struggles will force you on your knees. Then and only then will you realize that on your knees is where God has been waiting for you to be!!! Prayer will develop a blurry purpose.
So Stop asking God to deliver you from your process (pain). But make sure you get something out of it. Please believe, beloved, that pain drives you to your purpose!!!

Establish your platform as an artist

Hey fam! Today I had a conversation with a recording artist friend of mine and she is having problems trying to decide what moves to make to establish herself as an artist. It reminds me of what my consultant told me a few years ago; "Establish Your Ministry Platform!" When I talk to people about moving forward in their lives I ask them "have you prayed about it"? If they reply "yes", then my next question is "have you heard back from God?" Most of the time we think that just to pray is good enough, but prayer is a two way street. You have to allow God time to speak back to you before you move forward!
What works for someone else may not work for you. You have to ask yourself three questions: 1.) What are you gifted at, 2.)What are you passionate about, and 3). What do you enjoy? Maybe your like Angelina Jolie, you're passionate about foreign orphans. You must live with your own conviction and do what God has given you a passion to do.
How do you know that you are passionate about something?
One of the ways that you can identify what you are passionate about is you loose sleep thinking abou it! Some things God put on your heart because He wants you to do something about it. Remember: if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything! Don't be someone else, but be who God is making you to be.
You will not learn eveything about God's plan for your life right away. So remember that patience will eliminate correction!
